Overview

We are seeking a talented Ruby on Rails programmer to assist with maintenance and improvements to our web application. The main task will be upgrading the application to the latest version of MySQL. This project will involve troubleshooting, bug fixing, and implementing new features to enhance the functionality and performance of the application.

Our web application is hosted on an AWS EC2 instance, currently using MySQL version 5.7, and we are planning to migrate to version 8.0. The server uses Nginx, and the current version of Ruby on Rails is 4.2.0.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Ruby on Rails, MySQL, and web development best practices. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are essential. This is a great opportunity to work on an existing web application and make a significant impact on its success.
Responsibilities

    Upgrade the existing MySQL database from version 5.7 to 8.0.
    Troubleshoot and fix any issues that arise during the migration process.
    Implement new features to improve the functionality and performance of the application.
    Perform regular maintenance and updates to ensure the web application remains secure and efficient.
    Collaborate with the team to understand and prioritize project requirements.
    Optimize the application for maximum speed and scalability.
    Ensure the server environment (AWS EC2 and Nginx) is properly configured and maintained.

Requirements

    Proven experience with Ruby on Rails (version 4.2.0).
    Strong proficiency with MySQL, particularly with migrations and upgrades (from 5.7 to 8.0).
    Experience troubleshooting and fixing bugs in a web application environment.
    Solid understanding of web development best practices.
    Experience with AWS EC2 and Nginx.
    Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team.
